I really want to love these pants, but they are just a bit over sized from the usual MH pants products I've owned in the past. I have a 32in waist, wearing a medium pant and I have to cinch the belt up quite a bit. Length is good (I'm 33in inseam), but the pants are a bit baggy and loose in the rear and legs, giving almost a sloppy look to them. Not the outdoor professional look I was aiming for!
I agree with other reviewers that cargo pockets would be more useful and MH should add the option back for these pants. The design looks nice, great lines and materials, but not as functional as field pants!
All that said, MH always has excellent products and this, despite the design flaws, is no exception and other reviewers love them! Now the hard choice for me...bring the pants to a tailor and lose some of the quality or give these away and try a different MH style pant?
I would recommend this product.

I've been looking for casual, comfortable, good looking pants for my husband for years. I didn't like the warmup pants he wore for casual daily wear. My daughter came up with these. He likes wearing them. I like the look.

These pants are pretty awesome for hiking. I have been wearing them for the past several weeks while hiking and backpacking and they have been perfect. The pockets have ample room for anything you may want easily accessible while hiking, and the zip pocket on the leg is awesome for stashing a cellphone or lighter or an energy bar. The material around the waistband and in the crotch of the pant makes them incredibly comfortable to wear, and definitely helps with comfort when wearing a pack. The DWR finish sheds water surprisingly well and it also does a decent job blocking wind.
These pants are pretty awesome. If you are looking for a good backpacking pant this is the one to go with for sure.

Bought these for my husband. He had a pair from last season and liked them so much we ordered a 2nd pair. He said they run slightly smaller in the waist than his old pair, and the khaki color is a little darker. Otherwise, comfortable, dry quickly and has a little stretch. Overall nice hiking pant.

I purchased these in preparation for a week long backpacking trip I was leading to the Georgia/South Carolina Border. I Ordered the green (caper) and I like them very much, they fit comfortably and hang nicely, I am still not sure about the built in belt...it works well for the trail, but is always kind of funky if wearing them around town, but I really liked wearing them!
I purchased a pair of shorts very similar from MHW last year, and they have served me very well, I fully expect similar quality with these pants!

I currently find myself working in the Horn of Africa. On this, as well as my previous trip, I brought three pairs of Mesa Pants. They have performed very well under trying circumstances. They are easy to wash by hand, and dry quickly. Extremely durable, while comfortable at the same time. They are light, and take up little space while packing. My only criticism, that keeps me from giving this item five stars, is the lack of a couple of belt loops. The built in belt is nice, particularly while travelling through the airport. But it would be nice if their was a way to more easily wear these pants with a "multi-tool" sheath.
I would recommend this product.

Could use a couple improvements

Let me first state that these are quality pants. The new design is pretty good. They're a little roomier in the right places compared to the previous version but I miss the cargo pockets. If MH brought back the cargo pockets they'd be better.
The one other complaint I have is with the built in belt. Why do outdoor product manufacturers think these are a good idea? They're flimsy and tend to get twisted in the wash.
Put belt loops on it and bring back the cargo pockets and they be prefect.

Good Pants

Good pants. They are perfect for camping/hiking and seem like they are well put together. It would be nice if there was either a zipper on the lower leg or a boot cut option so larger boots could be worn with the pants. The side pockets are a little weird and I wish they would put the previous pockets back on these mesa’s. Otherwise, a good pair of pants and they fit well.

I love all of my Mountain Hardware products they are the best products I have ever used. it is clear that the people who designed them understand the issues with hiking climbing and being active outside.
The issue with most pants on the market is they dont understand that anything in the front or back pockets gets crushed when you are active in the outdoors. The cargo pockets were a major selling feature, you could put your cell phone or whatever in the pocket and it would never get crushed when you sat down or moved over a rock.
Bring back the cargo pockets, maybe make one of them a little more secure with a zipper or a couple of buttons under the flap.

Great pants for hiking on and off trail!

I have used one pair of these pants four days a week for three months now, and they are still kicking butt. I work in remote locations in Colorado, scrambling over downed timber and through brush, (no trails). I was not sure what to expect from a pair of nylon pants, but I really needed a replacement for uncomfortable, water retaining Carhart, etc. pants. I have been going through pants like crazy every field season. These pants have held up amazingly well: no blown out crotch, less seeds getting stuck to the leg, and surprisingly, no holes or rips. The crotch gusset is something of beauty for a big guy stepping over timber and jumping streams/washes. I am planning on using these for my warm weather work pants from now on.
Pros: Very lightweight, but sturdy. Dry quickly. Fit well. The fabric does not get caught on snags etc. Crotch gusset.

My favorite hiking pants

This is my second pair of Mesa pants. I miss the cargo pockets from my first pair, but I am still satisfied with the new ones. I like the new bottom hem, as I never really appreciated the elastic draw cord on my first pair. I still wear the original pair, after having the rear end seam repaired. I backpack in the Mesa pants, which offer great sun and bug protection. I don't like or need convertible pants, as I simply roll up the pant legs when I want shorts. It's an ultralight thing. The Mesa pant will hopefully be my choice for a PCT thru hike next summer.

These pants are awesome -they fit incredibly well, are insanely durable and work for everything. I bought them for a 30 mile BWCA hike and I have honestly used them or everything since. They are super sweet travel pwnts, work well for working around the house and work exceeding well for hiking.
Jy only complaint is the built in belt. Being backpacking pants I understand why it is there, but i would prefer my own belt.

Near Perfect Pant

I've been wearing these pants for two months now, and putting them through a fair amount of abuse. The material is lightweight and doesn't make that swishing noise that many pants of this type do. The only downside to the pants is the built in belt. It is not that this one is any lower quality than another; It is pants with built in belts in general. Mens Mesa Pants

I'm in a desert forward operating base in Afghanistan. The pants were shipped on the 11th and arrived on the 19th. IF you've ever been deployed, you know that is some fast service.
The reason I can't give five out of five stars is the sizing. I had to do a search to figure out the waist size of larges and mediums, and thankfully I guessed correctly and got a large. If you want to keep the sizing you currently have, that's fine, but put in a range. Medium 30-34 Large 34-38. Something like that.

Large but comfy

I'm 6 foot, 180lbs with a 33 inch waste. I bought a medium but they were about 3 to 4 inches too big. They are still very comfortable and look good, just lots of room in the butt.

Great on-the-go taveling pant

No leg zip

Your pictures and the description of this product clearly states that there is a leg zip. My pants I received have no leg zips. Very disappointing. But I guess I'll keep them.

Mesa pant alternative to mandatory "scrubs"

My (hospital) employer implemented a mandatory "scrubs" dress code. Each employee of included departments must wear scrubs in the color assigned to the department. My department is designated to wear black scrubs. I found the draw-string waist scrubs so uncomfortable that I immediately began looking for alternatives. I have a number of Mountain Hardwear pants (or hiking) that are more comfortable and also outperform scrubs in drying time and care ease. Luckily, a black Mesa pant was available. Please improve the product by providing "cargo pockets" and hanger loops (for forceps, key rings, scissors, hammers, flat screen TVs etc).

I like the feel and cut of the Mesa redesign. I also like that the drawcord in the cuff has been removed. I did however prefer the look of the more traditional cargo pocket rather than the hidden zippered pocket on the redesign. Overall, I like this version better.

Like the cut

Very light weight, may not be ideal for sitting in camp in temperate locale, but if you are moving and it is above freezing they should be good. The real plus is the cut. The waist is higher than most of my trekking shorts, so it doesn't rub if you are wearing a waistbelt. I haven't worn them with my 65L pack yet, but with my 40L pack, I know for a fact these pants don't rub and the lining on the inside that marries up with the a waistbelt feels great.

Great pant. Blocks most of the wind and fits great. Could use another pocket on the left side to match the one on the right thigh and doesn't have the zip ankles like in the picture but they are not really needed on a non convertible pant. All and all very nice.

Finally!

I have finally found the perfect hiking pant! I was on a hunt to find a lightweight, non-cargo, durable hiking pant and I finally found them with the MH Mesas. The Mesas have two front, two back, and one front/side zippered pocket; enough space for everything without the bulk of cargo pockets (they look better too). The description describes the pants as having ankle zippers which they in fact do not have (I prefer it this this way).
