Great priced rain jacket, fits true to size. This jacket is much improved with the Dry Q technology. Now much more breathable.

This jacket is amazing. Day one I wore it to run in the rain. It kept me perfectly dry. I packed it with me on a trip to Europe. It rained the whole week. The jacket was great for me because of the weight. Also, the pit zips worked great after the rain left and the humidity set in.

I would recommend this product.

Torso length of this jacket is about 1.5" - 2" longer than previous years model. Luckily, the drawstrings underneath the jack allows for proper shortening to make it an ideal fit. Overall quality is pretty good with a great does of ventilated features on the jacket.

I would recommend this product.

I purchased this jacket a month ago and have nothing but good things to say about it and DRY-Q. I've only been able to use it between 40-75 degrees F, but it has never felt uncomfortable. It kept me dry both on the inside and the outside and it's lightweight. The only 2 things I wish it had would be Velcro on the wind flap on front zipper and a chest pocket, otherwise great jacket.

2 Days in and the DWR (durable water repellent) is already wearing off. Water doesn't bead and is already beginning to penetrate the shoulders. The jacket feels like a plastic bag due to its lack of breath-ability. Very disappointed as this jacket replaced my Marmot Pre-Cip jacket which squashes this jacket in performance.

Let me down

I wore this out tonight for a walk(1.5hrs) in heavy wind and rain.I could feel the dampness getting through to the inside layer.I had some papers in the chest pocket that got wet and I didn't find opening the pit zips much use when I needed to let of some steam...

Bought my first Epic shell in 2001, and wore it out until 2009! Solid construction, taped seams, very waterproof, fights the wind, breathes well, hood fits well, can't say enough good things about it. Pit zips dump heat, and when layered with a fleece/wool mid-layer will keep you warm when the temps plunge. Heads up that it is a bit short on the waist, but not bad. Only design gripe is that I don't personally like how the hood fully integrates with the jacket. It does slightly help with protection, but it's funny looking and in the way unless you have it fully zipped, which I rarely did. Because of the design the hood does not roll in to the collar either. Would recommend. I'm 5'11" 165lbs 40R

Exceeded expectations

I bought this specifically to handle light rain in the city and for soggy trail hikes. To be honest, I did not think it would handle the type of rain storm I put it through. I hiked for at least an hour during a very heavy rain and wind storm on the coast and the jacket kept me dry. My pants and shoes were soaking, but everything under my jacket was dry as bone except for my baselayer which was damp with perspiration ( expected ). No complaints from me.

Happy then sad

My epic jacket lasted over six years before the inside started to deteriorate. I sent it in and was allowed to purchase a new one at a discounted price. I learned that washing out any body oils with Tide soap would help keep this problem from happening again. I am sure they are working on this problem as I have several waterproof jackets over ten years old that have not failed as this one. I was still happy with the jacket.

Epic Fail

This jacket works OK as a windbreaker or a shell for VERY light rain. I tried it while hiking in the rain (moderate) and my jacket underneath got its outside SOAKED (this was not perspiration). I can't figure it out: the fabric is substantial (almost too heavy in my opinion) and the seams are all taped. Very strange and very sad. This is not what I have come to expect from Mountain Hardware.

This was a gift so I don't have the receipt, otherwise I'd be returning it immediately.

An "Epic" Jacket

I had the very same problem the other reviewer had, but unlike her, I called Mountain Hardwear about my problem and they took very good care of me. I am sold on the service. They were kind in describing what can happen over time and how I can get the most out of this item. These jackets will not last forever but what does? Now on to the coat. Lightweight, solid, weather protection. Water and windproof this is my go to jacket for all but the nastiest of the nasty. I love it.

Awful rain jacket

I got this jacket in black when I started college in 2008 and it quickly started falling apart. The inside lining started tearing away in the sleeves about 6 months after I purchased it and now the whole inside is ripping out. I have taken care of this jacket and I do not over wash it. Now when I wear it when it's raining I look like a dalmation when I take it off due to the numerous spots where the lining has ripped out and is nonexistent. I tried uploading a photo but it would not let me. This is my first and sadly last product I will buy from Mountain Hardwear because of it's poor quality. I will be searching for a better quality jacket that actually keeps me dry such as The North Face.
